Book review: Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson

 Book description:

Jet has been waiting for her life to begin. When she is attacked on Halloween, she suffers from a massive head injury. She has one week to figure out who attacked her before she dies.

Book review:

I read Five Survive by this same author and enjoyed it and decided to pick this up. I think I liked this book better because it is for an older audience and I do like picking up books that have a main character that is closer to my age. I did look up some spoilers for this book because it was making me nervous to not know exactly what was going to happen. Pretty good read, and would recommend.

Book review: The Unmapping by Denise S. Robbins

 Book description:

At 4 a.m., in New York City, the buildings decide to rearrange themselves. This happens every day at 4 a.m. Esme and Arjun work for the cities emergency management team. It is up to them to help finding a response to the unmapping.

Book review:

This book started off really strong but then went downhill especially after part 2. There was too much happening with too many characters with their own perspectives. We don't really get any resolutions for anything. We don't really get an answer on why cities are unmapping except a vague suggestion it might be happening because of climate change. Our 2 main characters, Esme and Arjun, were unbearable. We don't know why Esme's fiancĂ© disappeared one day, even though it seems like Esme's world basically revolved around him. Arjun has a weird obsession crush on Esme. Esme and Arjun get together at the end when there was no chemistry between them. I had high hopes for this one but it fell short.

Book review: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab

 Book description:

Three young women, Their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots. One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild. And all of them grow teeth. (from the storygraph description)

Book review:

This book is mostly character driven which isn't for me. This isn't a bad thing. V.E. Schwab is a fantastic writer but her books aren't really for me. Nothing big action wise doesn't really happen until the last like 75 pages. It is a lot of backstory for 2 of the characters just to explain why the 3rd characters story and how she gets pulled in to make sense.

Book review: Lasagna Means I Love You by Kate O'shaughnessy

 Book description:

Nan was all Mo needed, and now Nan is gone. Mo goes into foster care when Uncle Billy decided not to stick around. Mo hopes to find her family by learning to cook other peoples family recipes. Mo realizes if she wants a family recipe of her own she will have to make it herself.

Book review:

This book goes into navigating grief and there is no one way to grieve. I liked how it showed that family doesn't always come one way, but a lot of different ways, and finding a new home through foster care isn't easy. I liked the authors book The Wrong Way Home slightly better but this book is still fantastic. This book is a little predictable but it didn't bug me. I wouldn't mind if the author wrote a sequel to this book about Mo's future adventures but I think this book is also fantastic on its own.

Book review: Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

 Book description:

Nona works as a teachers aid. She loves the beach, her family, and dogs. But 6 months ago she woke up in somebody else's body, and she's afraid she has to give it back.

Book review:

My biggest gripe about this series is that it is riddled with memes and it's not really to the benefit of the story because having them in there takes away from the story. This series is really good and I will be reading the final book when it comes out but I might just stick to rereading Gideon the Ninth and not the rest of the series

Book review: My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

 Book description:

Anna was born to be a donor for her sister, Kate. When Kate finally needs a kidney, Anna decides to sue her parents for rights to her own body. As the case is going on, Kate gets sicker, and the family breaks apart.

Book review:

Really good book, but bad movie adaptation. The movie was basically a AU fan fiction of the book in my opinion. The movie moves the plot to the other side of the country, and changes the ending. I picked this up because I saw a few clips of the movies, and it was only like the same 2 so I got curious. People were saying that the movie and book endings were different but I wanted to read the book first to know how it really goes before seeing the movie. Glad I read the book first. I also feel they did Jesse dirty in the movie.

Book review: The Wrong Way Home by Kate O'Shaughnessy

 Book description:

Life on the Ranch was perfect. One day Fern's mother decides to leave the Ranch with Fern. Fern tries desperately to get back to the Ranch while questioning if the Ranch is what she still wants.

Book review:

It is hard to leave a cult even if it is against your will, even if leaving is the best thing for you. This book shows how hard it is to leave especially kids who have grown up in it and that is all they know. This book shows that nothing is 100% good or 100% bad and everything is a mix of good and bad. It is ok to miss the good in a bad situation and hate the bad in a good situation. I'm glad that kids books are talking about big topics that are sometimes hard to talk about. This book is so well written and would recommend to pretty much everyone.
