Book review: The Unmapping by Denise S. Robbins

 Book description:

At 4 a.m., in New York City, the buildings decide to rearrange themselves. This happens every day at 4 a.m. Esme and Arjun work for the cities emergency management team. It is up to them to help finding a response to the unmapping.

Book review:

This book started off really strong but then went downhill especially after part 2. There was too much happening with too many characters with their own perspectives. We don't really get any resolutions for anything. We don't really get an answer on why cities are unmapping except a vague suggestion it might be happening because of climate change. Our 2 main characters, Esme and Arjun, were unbearable. We don't know why Esme's fiancĂ© disappeared one day, even though it seems like Esme's world basically revolved around him. Arjun has a weird obsession crush on Esme. Esme and Arjun get together at the end when there was no chemistry between them. I had high hopes for this one but it fell short.

Book review: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab

 Book description:

Three young women, Their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots. One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild. And all of them grow teeth. (from the storygraph description)

Book review:

This book is mostly character driven which isn't for me. This isn't a bad thing. V.E. Schwab is a fantastic writer but her books aren't really for me. Nothing big action wise doesn't really happen until the last like 75 pages. It is a lot of backstory for 2 of the characters just to explain why the 3rd characters story and how she gets pulled in to make sense.

Book review: Lasagna Means I Love You by Kate O'shaughnessy

 Book description:

Nan was all Mo needed, and now Nan is gone. Mo goes into foster care when Uncle Billy decided not to stick around. Mo hopes to find her family by learning to cook other peoples family recipes. Mo realizes if she wants a family recipe of her own she will have to make it herself.

Book review:

This book goes into navigating grief and there is no one way to grieve. I liked how it showed that family doesn't always come one way, but a lot of different ways, and finding a new home through foster care isn't easy. I liked the authors book The Wrong Way Home slightly better but this book is still fantastic. This book is a little predictable but it didn't bug me. I wouldn't mind if the author wrote a sequel to this book about Mo's future adventures but I think this book is also fantastic on its own.
