Book review: Please Pay Attention by Jamie Sumner

 Book description:

For Bea there was before and after. After the shooting Bea must learn to navigate her grief. Through therapeutic horseback riding, Bea learns how to heal and move forward again.

Book review:

I feel like after school shootings we often talk a lot about how loss looks like to the family of the dead and not enough about the other kids that were there that day. Losing people is hard for everyone. I think these conversations about gun control are good no matter where you come from and what your stance is because if we don't, we won't be able to make sure things like this don't happen again or as much as they do.

Book review: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

 Book description:

Gideon wants to get out of the Ninth House but before she can escape she gets stopped. To earn her freedom she must travel with Harrow to the First House. While they are there they must learn what it take to become a lyctor and discover who is behind who is slowly killing them.

Book review:

This book I feel is better being read in a physical copy than the audiobook because I was able to keep the characters straight. The audiobook is amazing though. I think I also liked physically reading it better also is I already knew what was going to happen so I got to see the foreshadowing and I think that was brilliant how she did it. I also can't wait to keep rereading the series to see what else I missed the first time around.

Book review: Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

 Book description:

The Tuck family will live forever. When 10 year old Winnie meets the Tucks they do everything they can to make sure she doesn't tell their secret.

Book review:

I decided to reread this book after seeing the musical at a local high school. I knew they changed a few things and that is why I reread it. I understand the changes they made for the musical and I am ok with the changes they made. A lot of what is in the book made it to the stage and it makes me want to rewatch the movie and see how much changed in the movie.

Book review: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

Book description:

Tova works at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, and likes to keep busy. As she works, she gets acquainted with the giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus. As they form an unlikely bond, information from the past 30 years come to light.

Book review:

The octopus was the most interesting part of this book. We didn't get very many POV chapters with him but I wish we had cuz he was the most interesting character in this book. This book is well written but a lot of the people and situations were annoying and gave me second had embarrassment. Cameron is 30, he should not be acting like a teenager and that the world is out to get him all the time. Glad I read it though so I could get it off my mind. I get how people like it.

Book review: Bright Red Fruit by Safia Elhillo

 Book description:

Everyone thinks Samira is a bad girl despite never getting her side of the story. Samira had a plan for the summer, until a rumor goes around and she is stuck at home. The only time she is allowed out is to go to her poetry forum. She soon meets Horus, and she feels wanted. Now she is keeping a bigger secret and if it gets out, it will prove to everyone about what they think of her.

Book review:

This book was very well written. Horus is a big creep. This book does fall into the trap of telling you things over and over again like it thinks you would have forgotten about them if it didn't keep mentioning it, but that was my one complaint about it. I have learned to like reading things written in verse. I didn't like things written in verse when I was growing up probably because of how I was taught about poetry and that it was supposed to be hard to read and the meaning behind each line was hard to figure out. This book and other books like The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo have proved that wrong.

Book review: Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

 Book description:

Elizabeth Zott is a chemist. She navigates her workplace as the only female chemist, where she meets Calvin, and falls in love. But life is unpredictable, and she ends up as a single mother, and as the host of Supper at Six. Her unusual methods are revolutionary but not everyone is happy.

Book review:

I went into this book with low expectations. I should at this point learn that I should stop judging every popular book is going to bad. This book isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but not exceptional. I thought it was average. I thought that at points where the characters fell flat like the author didn't know how to develop their character arc. This book could've been a bit shorter in my opinion but it was well written. If the tv series was free through my library or somewhere I would watch it. It was worth reading once to see what the hype was about.
